The Date Day Diary

Chicago Area Date Day Ideas

Wow!  Not since Schaller’s Pump (unfortunately now closed) have we been to such an old school place.  Charlie Beinlich’s looks like it is right out of the 1950’s, when it opened.  We found a table, peered across the room to the single menu board above the bar and tried to decide what to order.  Most, if not all, of the other patrons seemed to be regulars, but our waiter treated us great.  He explained the menu, told us they only accepted cash (there is an ATM in the entryway) and said they had the best burger around.

Tom ordered a medium cheeseburger and Theresa had the grilled chicken Caesar wrap (really?).  Both came with fries and coleslaw.  The burger was sublime.  No ketchup, mustard or mayo was needed.  A hearty portion of lettuce and a couple pickles made it perfect.  Theresa loved her wrap as well.  The fries and slaw were awesome, and we recommend this place to everyone.

As for drinks, it is wonderfully basic.  They have a full, bar, a couple of ok wines and a small beer list.  Miller Lite and Heineken are the only draft options, but you can choose from a dozen or so bottles.  We will definitely be back to Charlie Beinlich’s and encourage everyone to try it at least once.  How can you not love a place with a one-page web site?
