Founded in 1932, Miner-Dunn has been serving good food at a reasonable price to Northwest Indiana residents for over 85 years.  Surprisingly, one of us (Tom) has lived in the area for over 50 years and had never been there.  We decided to stop in for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon to see if the place stood the test of time.  In short, it does.

Walking into the restaurant was like stepping back in time.  We are pretty sure the booths, countertops and even the wall paper have been in place for at least 50 years.  Despite this, everything was clean, and the staff was friendly and efficient.  Neither of us opted for a hamburger for which they are best known.  Instead we had potato soup and a BLT (Theresa) and chicken and rice soup and a tuna melt (Tom).  The potato soup was a little thick, but the flavor was good.  The chicken and rice, on the other hand, was just plain excellent.  As for the sandwiches, they were fresh and flavorful, exactly what you would expect from a diner.  Miner-Dunn also specializes in homemade ice cream and pies (coconut cream for Theresa – which was excellent).

If you haven’t been here before, we suggest you check it out.
